When the buffalo tribe lost their way, forgetting the Creator and the sacred teachings of the buffalo, they fell into chaos. Their inner harmony shattered, they sought to control each other, and the buffalo abandoned them.

But amidst the turmoil, two scouts encountered a wondrous sight. A woman clothed in a radiant white buckskin dress appeared over a hill, like the first light of dawn, carrying a bundle of sticks. One of the scouts was overcome by lust, while the other was sent back with a message for the tribe.

The tribe prepared an altar and a great tepee, eagerly awaiting the return of the sacred woman. And as she emerged from the sunset, she sang a sacred song, teaching the tribe about the 'ca nu pa,' the sacred pipe. She spoke of how the red bowl of the pipe symbolised the blood of the people and the feminine, while the wooden stem represented the tree of life and the masculine. She explained that when the two are joined together, the realms of above and below are connected, and this union should only be done in prayer, with humility and gratitude to the Great Spirit above and the Great Mother below.

The tribe embraced this divine gift, using the sacred pipe to restore balance within themselves. And as they honoured and respected the pipe, they also honoured and gave thanks to the Great Father in the sky and the Sacred Mother on the earth. The pipe became a conduit for blessings and teachings, a symbol of reverence and connection to the spiritual realms, and through its guidance, the buffalo returned to the people, and harmony was restored.
